Starting points
There are several starting points in the Biesbosch where you can launch your own canoe or rent one. On the Biesbosch map of Staatsbosbeheer, which can be bought or viewed at the main gates, all kayak piers in the Biesbosch are indicated.
Because of the busy shipping on the wide Amer, it is not recommended to use the port of Drimmelen as a starting point. Better to start your canoe trip at: Jachthaven Vissershang, there just over the dike is the jetty. There is plenty of parking space, just like at Jachthaven Van Oversteeg.

What do you need to consider?
That the Biesbosch is a rugged nature reserve where you sometimes encounter unexpected situations: a creek lying dry or a flooded footpath. In the Sliedrechtse Biesbosch, for example, there is a tide difference of 80 cm on average and especially at high tide there is a strong current. Of course we cannot inform you exactly about these situations in advance, but that is exactly what makes a visit to the Biesbosch so adventurous!
For the routes departing from Jachthaven Vissershang keep in mind at the crossing Spijkerboor, that in windy conditions there is a lot of wave action, so wear a life jacket.
Several advanced canoe routes are available from Drimmelen. These always begin and end with the crossing of the Amer River. There is shipping and wave action here, so wear a life jacket.
